Fariba Safai is an abstract figurative artist born in Tehran, Iran. Her work is a reflection of her childhood experiences, witnessing the revolution in Iran and her escape from there, as well as her love of nature growing up as a child in California. She earned a bachelor’s degree in design from SFSU and received a BFA in sculpture from California College of the Arts in 2004. Fariba is an artist activist who has performed in front of thousands of people at women’s rallies including “No Borders No Walls” and “Freedom for Iran” rallies. She has exhibited her paintings at the Swiss Art Fair in Zurich with ArtBox Projects and at the artist residency at Chateau Orquevaux, in France. She has also participated in a street art mural project in Crete, Greece. A collection of her works is presented by Maison Contemporain, Paris, France. BM Gallery. in Orvieto, Italy.

Fariba’s performance poetry has earned her media mentions from several major television news stations. She has been featured in numerous publications and blogs including Create! Magazine blog and had her work featured by All SHE Makes, Visionary Art Collective, and Visionary Projects. She is presently part of the female artist collective called The Art Queens, led by Ekaterina Popova, and she is represented in the online magazine Frontrunner. Fariba currently lives and works between San Francisco and Rome, Italy.

“The Waiting Game” is a captivating piece that invites viewers to contemplate the concept of anticipation. The title itself suggests a sense of longing and expectation, a feeling that is further amplified by the elongated dimensions of the artwork. The use of oil and ink on paper creates a rich and textured surface, drawing the viewer into the intricate details of the composition. The deliberate choice of colors and brushstrokes evokes a sense of tension and suspense, as if the figures depicted are caught in a moment of suspended animation. The figures themselves are rendered in a semi-abstract style, their forms merging and intertwining with one another. This ambiguity allows for multiple interpretations, inviting viewers to project their own emotions and experiences onto the artwork.

Fariba’s work often explores themes of emotion and expression, and “The Waiting Game” is no exception. The piece captures a fleeting moment in time, frozen in a state of anticipation. Through her use of color, line, and form, Fariba invites viewers to engage with the artwork on a visceral level, tapping into their own emotions and experiences.

Fariba Safai’s art is a reflection of her life’s journey, a testament to her experiences and emotions. Her unique style and technique are a captivating fusion of colors and forms, inviting viewers to delve into their own emotions and interpretations. Each brushstroke and composition is a window into her soul, revealing layers of meaning and depth. Safai’s art is a celebration of life’s complexities, a tapestry of joy, sorrow, and everything in between. It’s an invitation to pause, reflect, and connect with the essence of human experience. In her work, Safai captures the fleeting moments of beauty and truth that define our existence, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of those who encounter it.
